About Me

Meet Laila — Mamá, Abuelita, and Your Bilingual Cheerleader 💛
Hola Mamita, I’m Laila Oswald Villavicencio — founder of Baby and Me Spanish.
I was born in Guadalajara, México, to a Mexican papá and an American mamá. Spanish was my first language, and in our home, both languages flowed naturally. There were no strict rules, no pressure, just love and consistency.
But when I moved to the U.S. and became a mamá myself, everything changed. Suddenly, it was all on me to keep Spanish alive for my babies — and it was heavy.

With my first two daughters, I slipped into English too often. Life was busy — work, commutes, dinners, exhaustion — and Spanish felt like “one more thing” on my never-ending list.
The guilt was real. I felt judged by family, misunderstood by friends, and sometimes ashamed that I wasn’t “doing enough.”
I even wondered if I should just give up.

The guilt was real. I felt judged by family, misunderstood by friends, and sometimes ashamed that I wasn’t “doing enough.”
I even wondered if I should just give up.
But when my twins were born, I knew I had to try again.
This time, I let go of perfection. Instead of rigid rules, I started weaving Spanish into the little moments — lullabies at bedtime, silly songs during bath time, simple phrases at mealtime.
And you know what? It worked. Slowly but surely, Spanish came back into our home.
Today, all four of my daughters are fully bilingual — with no accent in either language. And now, my granddaughter Luna is growing up surrounded by Spanish, just like I dreamed.

Why Baby and Me Spanish Exists

If you’ve ever felt alone in this journey, know this: you are not alone anymore.
I’ve been where you are. I know the guilt, the pressure, the frustration — and I also know the joy, the pride, and the freedom that comes when you finally see your bebé answer you back in Spanish.
That moment is coming for you, Mamita. And I’ll be here to walk with you every step of the way. 💛
